Droop is a condition where a smooth projection of the seam extends below the normal seam. This can occur any place in the seam.
POTENTIAL CAUSES:
Worn first operation seaming roll.
Worn first operation seaming roll bearing.
Damaged flange.
Body hook too long.
Product in seam.
Damaged curl in can cover.
Excessive or uneven lining compound in cover curl.
SUGGESTED REMEDY:
Replace seaming roll.
Replace seaming roll bearing.
Determine cause of flange damage: filler, track work, transit related, or can manufacturer.
Check pin height and decrease lifter spring pressure as necessary.
Clean and adjust filler so product does not get trapped in the double seam. Check seamer feed chain timing.
Determine cause of cover curl damage: separator mechanism, cover guide rail, transit related, or end manufacturer.
Discuss with can or end manufacturer.
