FALSE SEAM

A False Seam is a critical defect and occurs when the cover and body hooks do not interlock around the circumference of the can and/or double seam.

POTENTIAL CAUSES:

  • Damaged body flange, bent or knocked down

  • Flattened or damaged cover curl.

  • Sluggish seaming levers.

  • Incorrect setting of cover bell guides.

SUGGESTED REMEDY:

  • Determine if the can is damaged before or after entering seamer. If flange is being damaged in the seamer, check the timing of the cap feed turret and can feed chain finger with the seaming turret. Make sure cap guide rails are properly set.

  • Check cover feed magazine and separators to determine if damage is occurring at this point.

  • Reset seaming lever end play.

  • Reset the cover bell guides to clear cover curl by .15” - .20”.
