LONG COVER HOOK

A Long Cover Hook is a condition where the cover hook length approaches and/or exceeds the recommended guideline.

POTENTIAL CAUSES:

  • Shallow countersink caused by worn or incorrect seaming chuck.

  • Short body hook caused by insufficient lifter.

  • First operation seaming roll set too tight.

  • First operation roll profile too narrow.

  • Overly tight second operation seam.

  • Excessive seaming stock.

SUGGESTED REMEDY:

  • Replace seaming chuck.

  • Increase lower lifter spring pressure to obtain proper body hook.

  • Adjust first operation roll for proper seam tightness.

  • Replace with proper first operation roll profile.

  • Reset seam to 90% tight.

  • Discuss with end manufacturer.
