A Long Cover Hook is a condition where the cover hook length approaches and/or exceeds the recommended guideline.
POTENTIAL CAUSES:
Shallow countersink caused by worn or incorrect seaming chuck.
Short body hook caused by insufficient lifter.
First operation seaming roll set too tight.
First operation roll profile too narrow.
Overly tight second operation seam.
Excessive seaming stock.
SUGGESTED REMEDY:
Replace seaming chuck.
Increase lower lifter spring pressure to obtain proper body hook.
Adjust first operation roll for proper seam tightness.
Replace with proper first operation roll profile.
Reset seam to 90% tight.
Discuss with end manufacturer.
