SPRUNG SEAM

A Sprung Seam is a condition where the seam is pulled away from the body wall. In extreme cases, the seam is pulled away from the body wall all the way around the can.

POTENTIAL CAUSES:

  • Overly tight second operation roll setting.

  • Long body hooks.

  • Work or broken seaming cam spring (60L).

SUGGESTED REMEDY:

  • Adjust second operation roll setting to obtain 90% to 95% tightness rating.

  • Adjust lower lifter spring pressure and/or pin height to obtain nominal body hooks.

  • Replace or adjust seaming cam spring (60L).
