A Seam Vee is an irregularity on the cover hook when the cover material does not form smoothly. The material splits causing a “V” shaped opening on the face of the cover hook.
POTENTIAL CAUSES:
Improper first operation seaming roll setting.
First operation roll profile too wide.
First operation roll worn.
Product trapped in the double seam.
Damaged cover curl.
Timing of seamer, feed chain and cap feed turret to seaming turret.
Excessive seaming stock.
Wrinkle along the curl and crown of the end.
SUGGESTED REMEDY:
Reset first operation roll tightness and height relationship to seaming chuck.
Replace with proper first operation roll with narrower groove profile.
Replace with new first operation roll.
Check for overfills and proper filling procedure.
Damaged ends at cover feed can cause vees. Insure covers are not damaged prior to feeding into seamer, and that the seamer is properly set up.
Refer to section in manual on timing of equipment for seamer being used.
Discuss with end manufacturer.
